Sorry we haven’t posted in a while, we have been SUPER busy. We are in the final stages of construction of our studios and several artists will begin moving in on Sunday. We also just found out we are going to be covered in next weeks edition of Scene Magazine! I wanted to share with you some pictures of the space as it was being worked on. Thanks to Entropic Light for the beautiful photos! And if you haven’t seen it already, scroll down to see our fun little time-lapse from our big weekend of cleaning and construction.
We are now renting the remaining studios on a first-come first-served basis. Please email Shannon to set up a tour.
We hope you can join us for our Grand Opening party on March 11. It’s an informal gathering and you can come and go as you please. We will be hosting a small thank you ceremony around 6:30 or 7:00 to acknowledge the wonderful people who got us to this point. So please come celebrate with us!
So… are you ready for this?!? OUR WALLS ARE GOING UP!!
How exciting is that? We’re thrilled to see such progress so quickly, and we couldn’t have done that without your generosity. We are still seeking donations to help us cover the cost of additional construction like doors and electrical, but we do anticipate walls will be completed by the end of February, and we’re looking to host our Grand Opening in early March (our anniversary month).
We have chosen to go with a new and exciting material that is a recycled plastic composite that allows for easy clean up, reduced labor costs, and flexibility if we need to remove or simply move a wall. The material is a bright, reflective white and will help bounce light throughout the studios. We will pair this with sections of hemasote or similar materials for easy hanging of materials.
Our space includes 18 artist studios ranging in size from 90 sf to 315 sf. We are currently going over budget requirements and will be establishing final rental prices in the next couple of weeks. We will also be finalizing the process for leasing a studio!
We’re moving right along and can’t wait to update you over the next few weeks. Please peruse the photos above and take a look at the updated drawing. As soon as we are able to take leasing applications we will post details and email our list of interested artists. So please be sure to fill out our Interested Artist Form if you have not done so already to be included on our email list.
On a personal note, I’d just like to take a moment to thank all who have donated monetarily, or encouraged us along the way with moral support and to those who have volunteered their time. I am so grateful to live in an area like ours, where we are so fortunate to have several communities bordering each other that are wonderfully diverse, and such huge supporters of the arts. The arts are an integral part of our society, and a way in which we tell our story, and shape our story. As individuals, as groups, as communities. We look forward to being part of the arts community and hope to be an important part of the fabric that encourages free thought, creativity, and diversity. As we get ARTFUL off the ground, we will be looking for thoughtful, fun ways to engage our community members so that we can all share in the art experience, no matter your skill level.
So… keep checking back for updates, as we will be announcing our Grand Opening very soon! We continue to welcome donations as we complete construction and look to fill our studios.
We have SO much to cover… fundraising off to strong start, all sorts of events, tours/open houses, and more! So please read on.
FUNDRAISING OFF TO STRONG START
Having officially launched our fundraising efforts just a couple weeks ago, we are already over half way to our first goal of $25,000! When we reach our first $25,000, we will receive a matching grant of another $25,000 bringing us to a total of $50,000. Reaching this goal will allow us to begin the building phase and our studios will begin to take shape. From there. we have set a goal of an additional $25,000 so that we can complete the building of all our studios, begin on our public art sculpture, and begin programming for our artists and community members. Every donation, large and small, will help us reach these goals and make our community even more ARTFUL! And to those who have donated thus far, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

INTERESTED ARTISTS OPEN HOUSE ON OCTOBER 15th
We are thrilled to be hosting our first open house in our new space! This open house is geared to artists who are interested in renting studio space from ARTFUL. This is a great opportunity for you to see the space before we begin building, and to ask us any questions you may have. We will be sharing information regarding leasing studio space, our fundraising efforts and our plans/timeline for the space. If you have not done so already, PLEASE FILL OUT OUR INTERESTED ARTIST FORM, so that we can keep you updated as our plans progress. Light refreshments will be available for your enjoyment. PLEASE RSVP HERE.
(THIS EVENT IS FOR INTERESTED ARTISTS. WE WILL BE HOLDING A SEPARATE GENERAL OPEN HOUSE IN NOVEMBER)
COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE ON NOVEMBER 6th
ARTFUL would like to invite you to our Community Open House. This is a great opportunity for members of the community and local business owners to see our new space before we begin building our studios, and to ask us any questions you may have. We will be sharing information regarding studio space, our fundraising efforts and our plans/timeline for the space. Light refreshments will be available for your enjoyment. PLEASE RSVP HERE.
Hey Everybody! Thanks for being patient with us as we navigate our way through the Non-Profit maze.
Building Search Update
Sorry to be secretive, but we have been asked by the building owner to keep the plans quiet for a bit longer as we hammer out the details and propose our plans to the city. I can tell you that it will be a fantastic first step and allow us to get started bringing affordable studio space and artist support to the community. As soon as we are allowed to announce we will be starting our first official fundraising campaign.
In the mean time….
We have been asked to be a part of LaurelLive. It is a special event filled with great musicians from all over. check it out here www.laurelive.com. Much of our board will be out of town that weekend so Shannon will need extra hands to pull this off. We are reaching out to all of you for your thoughts, ideas and assistance. The deadline is VERY tight – as the event is being held June 11 & 12. We have been given a lot of freedom, and have been told there are areas of fencing we could decorate, host live art projects, and play! If anyone has any clever ideas, would like to help or can offer any assistance, please email Shannon@artfulclevelnd.org, or comment below. This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of this event that will garner state and national attention.
Upcoming Events. Get these on your calendar ASAP
There are many sponsorship opportunities for these events so please get in touch if you are interested becoming an ARTFUL partner.
After a detailed conversation with organizers from Elevation Group yesterday, we are excited to say that ARTFUL will be an active participant in this inaugural event, and we’re VERY excited.
There are two opportunities for artists to participate – as an ARTFUL artist/maker or as a vendor.
As part of our stART program, ARTFUL has been asked to provide artists for the day/s who will create on site and offer an interactive and/or educational element for attendees. We are reaching out to other local non-profits involved in the arts, but we’d love it if any of our supporters were willing to participate as well. The key is that what you make/produce must be viewable to passer-byes and ideally encourage them to participate as well. If you are chosen to be one of our ARTFUL artists/makers you will receive a free wristband allowing you access to the concerts for the weekend, as well as 1 wristband for your assistant. Additionally, you may also have an opportunity to sell your wares on a fairly limited basis. If you are interested in participating as an ARTFUL artist/maker, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will provide you with more information.
The other way in which you can participate is as a vendor. Since this is the inaugural year for this festival, they are offering vendor opportunities at a very discounted price. Their website lists all the details, and we encourage you to take a look.
ARTFUL is excited about this new event and hope to grow our participation over the next several years. The festival is coming up quickly, so please email Shannon ASAP if you are interested, or if you have any questions.
